Reached a milestone today!
by Bungi Bill intoday represents for me something of a milestone.
after breaking both bones in my lower left leg nearly four months ago, i am now able to walk without the aid of crutches.
also, the orthopedic specialist has cleared me to once more drive a motor vehicle.

A State of Emergency has been declared
by Bungi Bill ineverybody here right now is busy "battening down the hatches" as they wait for the approach of a tropical cyclone.
a state of emergency has been declared in the district - the second one in as many weeks.
(the floodwaters from the tropical cyclone that hit just last week have still not drained away).. so far, the biggest hazard looks like it will be the storm surges from the ocean, and people living in some exposed coastal areas have already been evacuated.

Finally time to move on
by Bungi Bill ini have finally reached the point where i can forget that i was ever involved with such a $!%* cult as jehovahs witnesses.
(a situation that has taken over 20 years to achieve).. this discussion board certainly helped in this process, and i want to thank everybody for their support over the time that i have been a member both of this site and the old www.jehovahs-witness.com website (where i used the acronym reefton jack).
it is now, though, time to move on with my life, so i will say my farewells to everybody.. bill .

Babylon's fall - 455 BC versus 539 BC
by Bungi Bill inthat 539 bc is the overwhelmingly accepted date for this occurrence is without doubt.. - practically every reference work you consult will cite this date for the taking of babylon by the medo-persian armies under cyrus the great.
however, even the most widely held theories are open to challenge:.
- this is, after all, part of the scientific process.. for a challenge to succeed, though - particularly if it were to overturn such a widely held view as this one - it would have to come up with some very convincing evidence.

Their heart does not appear to be in it.
by Bungi Bill inall the jws that have called at my door over the last twelve years have appeared to be just going through the motions:.
- like they are merely (and only) fullfilling their obligations to record a reasonable in total in that column on the monthly field service report entitled "hours.".
the last lot actually seemed to be relieved that they had an excuse to disengage the enemy, and flee the field.

Not at Homes
by Bungi Bill indo the jws still emphasize following up on "not at homes":.
making "every effort" (or any effort at all) to contact all persons in their "territory"?.
this last month, april, was supposed to be a time of extra effort on their part.

The myth about "working a territory to life - NOT to death."
by Bungi Bill inin the 1980s, when the jw's door-knocking campaign had been revived somewhat, many congregations started covering their territory quite frequently.
we were repeatedly assured not to be put off, that congregations "worked their territory to life, not to death;"and that the "greatest increases were coming from territories that were being worked often.".
during those years, i was in an area that was spilling over with jws.

A lot depends on our frame of reference!
by Bungi Bill ini was reminded of this story after recent discussions on this board about jw speculationref.1984 & 1994. while the following account is not specifically about jehovahs witnesses, it still has some relevance.. this story was recounted by frank koch, in "proceedings", the magazine of the naval institute.
(for those who have heard this one before, please bear with me!).
two battleships assigned to the training squadron had been at sea on maneuvers in heavy weather for several days.
